Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a process through which we will work 1:1 in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment. We will form a therapeutic alliance, which refers to the working relationship between you and I, that enables trust and personal growth.

In a collaborative manner, we will explore how your feelings, beliefs, and behaviours work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of your life that you would like to change, better understand yourself and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

Benefits of Individual Therapy

  • Receive 1:1 attention from a therapist, and this allows the therapist to be very thorough in understanding your specific problems and distress of the client and in developing an individualized approach to helping the client.

  • The level of analysis and treatment can be much more comprehensive in individual therapy compared to group therapy.

  • The pace of the therapy can be tailored to meet your specific needs. It can be sped up in cases where you may be able to handle more focused and intense treatment, or it can be slowed down in cases where you may need time to adjust and move slowly.

  • The therapeutic alliance is strongest in individual therapy which is a key component of successful psychotherapy treatment.

  • Individual therapy allows for the development of self-awareness by discussing issues and getting feedback from your therapist.

  • Therapy sessions can be arranged rather quickly, if needed.

  • Individual therapy allows for the development of specific communication skills in individuals who need help with these skills.
